Do phone cables carry electricity?

2024-10-25

Phone cables (communication cables) are not charged under normal circumstances. Their main function is to transmit signals, such as phone calls, network data, etc., which propagate in the cable in the form of electromagnetic waves, not electric current. Therefore, the telephone cables we come into contact with in daily life are usually not charged.

However, some special cases should be noted. For example, when the cable is struck by lightning or a high-voltage power failure occurs nearby, induced voltage may be generated. In addition, if the cable is damaged or aged, voltage may also be generated. Although the voltage generated in these cases may not be enough to cause fatal harm to the human body, you still need to be vigilant and avoid touching it casually when you are not sure of the cable status.

In general, telephone cables are not charged during normal use, but voltage may be generated under certain conditions, so safety should be ensured during use and maintenance.
